Looking down 3,000 feet from the top of the White Bird Grade along Highway 95, travelers have an impressive view of White Bird Canyon and the Salmon River.

White Bird Canyon was site of the opening battle of the Nez Perce War between the Nez Perce Indians and the United States. The battle was a significant defeat of the U.S. Army.
