As this 1939 newspaper article describes, Moscow was once a booming center of the brick-making industry. One manufacturer was Taylor & Lauder, whose bricks were considered one of the finest available in the northwest. Moscow fire brick was essential, also, to the construction of a young Moscow, Idaho.

Some buildings built in that era include Gritman Hospital, the Kenworthy Theater, Moscow fire hall, Moscow Medical, and the Catholic Church.
