The College maintains a forest nursery and 7000 acre experimental forest. It is located only hours away from prime grazing land, uncharted wilderness, forests, big-game ranges, major waterways and excellent water-based recreation sites. Students in the college are exposed to a continuous flow of research activity carried on through the Forest, Wildlife, and Range Experiment Station.

Undergraduate education in forestry at the University of Idaho was first begun in 1909. New areas of study have been added throughout the history of the college. Wildland Recreation is the most recent example.
