A map showing significant places and events of the Nez Perce War that occurred in central Idaho. The Nez Perce War was a conflict between several bands of the Nez Perce tribe and their allies against the United States Army, between June and October of 1877. The conflict stemmed from the refusal of the Nez Perce to give up their ancestral lands and move to a reservation in Idaho. The forced removal was a violation of the 1855 Treaty of Walla Walla, which granted the tribe 7.5 million acres in their ancestral lands.
